Complaints heard about vehicles and machinery parked on county right of way

Jewell County Commissioners Keith Roe, Ed Duskie and Brent Beck met Aug. 5. Myka Zadina and Carla J. Waugh, county clerk, were present for the meeting.

Shannon Meier, ambulance director, provided the July monthly billing report and activity report. He requested an executive session to discuss confidential data relating to financial affairs. Regular session resumed with the commissioners approving to write-off $2,035.02 for the second quarter of 2024 for EMS.

Ed Duskie discussed complaints about vehicles and machinery parked on county right of way. Don Jacobs, sheriff, said he has dealt with this issue in the past. Ed said the Sheriff has the authority to go out to advise them not to park on county right of way.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed CDL requirements and an employment agreement. He said the dozer repairs are complete. The asphalt mix is to be delivered this week. Joel reported on several rock projects. He discussed the health insurance third party payer, Freedom Claims Management, not paying employee’s medical claims resulting in employees paying the expense out of pocket exceeding the deductible.

The commissioners went into executive session to discuss non-elected personnel with Cindy Becker, health administrator, present. Regular session resumed with no action taken.
