The regular monthly meeting for the Mankato Chamber of Commerce took place Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Bob’s. President Jason Ortman called the meeting to order. Haley Nelson read the July minutes. They were approved as read. Nelson also gave the treasurer’s report which was approved.
Nelson gave an update on the Community Birthday Calendars. This year the chamber sold 465 listings and pre-sold 113 calendars. The chamber members discussed how many calendars should be ordered. There was also discussion about the picture that is to be used for the calendar.
The Threshing Bee took place on July 20. Jason Ortman reported the watermelon popping contest was a success again this year. There were 3 to 4 extra watermelons that were cut up after the contest was concluded. Chamber Bucks were not given as a prize. The Historical Society has contacted the chamber to see if the chamber would be interested in helping sponsor a bigger band on Saturday evening instead of them sponsoring one Friday and the chamber sponsoring one Saturday. The chamber tabled the discussion about the band until they have more members next month.
The chamber discussed the Grizzly Tailgate again. They have the option of hosting a tailgate on Feb. 14 or helping Mahin Insurance on Oct. 25. The chamber also tabled this discussion for next month.
The Garage Sale Mall will take place during the Highway 36 Treasure Hunt Sept. 19 through 21. The members approved a price increase for renting one of the booths to $20 a day or all three days for $40. The cut-off to rent a booth will be Tuesday the 17. The chamber will set up for the event on the 18 at 5 p.m.
The next meeting will take place Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Bob’s.
