Opal Laird

Opal Joy (Ulsh) Laird, originally of Superior, Nebraska died on Aug. 6, 2024, in Hayden, Colorado, at the age of 99 years, 10 months and 16 days. She always considered Superior her home, no matter where she was residing, and looked forward to getting the hometown newspaper.

Opal was born on Sept. 21, 1924, in Webber, Kansas, the daughter of Boyd and Bessie (Clark) Ulsh. She graduated from Superior High School and lived a life committed to her family, friends and community.

She married Herman (Larry) Laird on Oct. 3, 1947. Together they were blessed with five children: Nancy, Janet, Steve, Tom and Ron. Opal was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed handwork, reading and contributing to her family, church and community.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Boyd and Bessie; her husband, Herman (Larry); daughter, Janet (Laird) Oldham; and son, Steven Laird.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Laird) and Otho Burton of Denver, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Lori Laird; stepsons, Tom (and Suzette) Laird of Bryan, Texas, Ron (and Brenda) Laird of Lincoln, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Susan (and Scott) Russell, Scott (and Kim) Hamel, Stephanie (and Rick) Potter, Danielle Laird, Amanda (and Davin) Arnold; six great-grandchildren: Taylor (and Ana) Powell, Aiden Conner, Alexis Conner, Ghauge Laird, Mountain Laird and Aspen Opal Laird; and one great-great granddaughter, Oaklee Powell.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, with a reception at the Methodist Church to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Haven Assisted Living Center, 300 S. Shelton Lane, Hayden, Colorado 81639
