KDOT to work on Highway 14

The Jewell City Council met on Monday, Aug. 5, at City Hall. Those in attendance were Mayor Darrell Bohnert, Council members Don Delzeit, Josh Burks, Derek Birdsell, Bob Freeman and Kristie Anderson, city clerk. Gaye Daniels was absent.

Minutes of the July 1st meeting were approved.

Don Jacobs, Jewell County sheriff, was present and said he is handing out gift cards to students who wear their seat belt in the car.

James Reed, code enforcement officer, was absent but provided a written report.

Bret Simmelink provided the monthly maintenance report. Simmelink said he was fixing the south side of the community center sidewalk. Simmelink also talked about some shop tools that need replaced.

Kristie Anderson presented the monthly clerk’s report. Anderson talked about getting ready to switch software data over to gWorks this month. Anderson also gave an update on the schedule for the community center and motel.

The land bank board presented their minutes from the last meeting. They mentioned the projects they are working on.

Anderson presented a building permit for J. Howland, which was approved.

Bohnert said KDOT will be working on Highway 14 to fix the pot holes. He talked about hiring someone who is licensed for water and wastewater until Simmelink gets his license. He also presented quotes from licensed water and wastewater guys.The council would like more information before hiring.

Bohnert said A. Long is quitting by October. He is adverising for the cleaning position.
