Jewell County voters went to polls last Tuesday

When Jewell County voters went to the polls last Tuesday to cast their ballots in a primary election, there were only three races and they were on the Republican ballots.

Turnout was generally light.

The unofficial preliminary results were not available in time for printing in the last issue of this newspaper. However, the results were posted late Tuesday night on the newspaper’s Facebook page and website (jewellcountynewspapers.com) on Wednesday.

For the First District House of Representatives post, Jewell County voters favored Tracey Mann, with 248 votes to Eric Bloom’s 24.

For District 36 state senator, Jewell County solidly supported the incumbent, Elaine S. Bowers. Mrs. Bowers received 252 votes. Challenger Robert Bonanata received 25.

It appears Brent Beck will retain his seat as the third district county commissioner. He defeated Korey J. Vacek, 68 to 17. The Democrats did not put forth a challenger.

Candidates for many offices ran unopposed. Those candidates, the office and vote count follow.

Lisa M. Moser, district 106 state representative district, 252 votes. Ervin Underwood, second district county commissioner, 89 votes. Myka Zadina, county clerk, 270 votes. Brenda Eakins, county treasurer, 248 votes. Amanda Davis, register of deeds, 257 votes. Scott D. Wright, county attorney, 244 votes. Donald Jacobs, county sheriff, 224 votes.
