Tonight's rodeo has local contestants

Sadie Rempel and Oakley Ward take horsing around to a new level. The pair have competed together at county rodeos in roping events.

They also competed on the Central Kansas Youth Rodeo circuit. The pair are on two different tracks at the moment.

Rempel completed her first year at Pratt Community College, Pratt, Kansas, where she competed for the rodeo team. Pratt competes in the Central Plains region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.. The team enters rodeos in the fall and spring semesters.The team is part of the agricultural department.

Rempel competes in barrel racing, team roping and goat tying. The team lists 10 rodeos on the schedule with four in the fall and six in the spring.

She enters her final year at Pratt Aug. 20. She has her sights set on several schools after she graduates from Pratt. She plans to continue her rodeo career.

Rempel will compete at the Nuckolls County rodeo today (Thursday) and Friday. She is enetered in breakaway roping and barrel racing.

Oakley Ward starts her junior year at Superior High School in August.

She has competed on the Central Kansas Youth Rodeo circuit for several years. She has several all-around titles to her credit as well as the saddle to prove it.

Oakley will have surgery this fall on her left wrist to correct damage from roping.

She is currently in fourth place in the all-around standings.

Lane Ward is following in his sister’s footsteps. He also competes on this circuit. He is currently atop the boys 2-4 all-around group with a large lead. He prefers calf riding but is eager to move up to steer riding. He also competes in barrel racing, breakaway roping and breakaway steer and goat tying.

Oakley will be competing at the Nuckolls County Rodeo today (Thursday) and Friday.
