Several communities have Little Free Libraries in which community residents may exchange books free of charge. Other communities have Blessings Boxes in which people can exchange food. The libraries come in all sizes and shapes and sometimes used adapted newspaper vending machines.

Superior has a new library with a twist.

The Superior Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Superior Industries, Tony White and Mike Smith worked together to create the Disc Golf Lending Library in Lincoln Park.

Park visitors who would like to play disc golf but didn’t arrive at the park without one of the Fresibee type discs do not need to go in search of a suitable disc. They need only visit the Disc Golf Lending Library.

When they finished their game they are to return the borrowed discs to the library.

How to play the game instructions are also available at the library.

Disc golf is described as a healthy and inexpensive recreational activity that provides upper and lower body conditioning, aerobic exercise and mental stimulation. The game started with people using Frisbees and aiming at targets made up of trees, trash cans, light poles, pipes and whatever else was handy.

The Lincoln Park course now has specially designed baskets mounted on poles. The rules are similar to golf rules with goal of reaching each hole with the fewest number of throws. The course can be played alone or with other players.

The game is now frequently played with specially designed discs. There are now driver, mid-range and putter discs of differing weights.
