A boil water advisory was issued Monday alerting the customers of the Cawker City public water supply to the possible bacterial contamination of the system. The advisory was issued after a waterline break resulted in the loss of distribution system pressure. The order will remain in place until testing at a certified laboratory assures the state a bacterial contamination does not exist.
Until the order is lifted, customers are to boil water for one minute prior to to drinking or using for food preparation. Any ice cubes that may have been made with contaminated water should be disposed of. Dishes and food contact surface should be washed with clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of of unscented household bleach per gallon water. The dishes and surfaces should be immersed with the treated water for at least one minute. Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled.
