Harmony United Methodist Church recognized for service

Operation Christmas Child, a project of international Christian relief organization Samaritan's Purse, delivers gift-filled shoeboxes to millions of children in need each year. Harmony United Methodist Church was recognized by Samaritan's Purse for their five years of service as a Drop-off Location in Jewell County for the international ministry.

The award was presented to Pastor Jim Rice and Becky Fernandez, drop-off team leader at Harmony, by Gia Garey, Operation Christmas Child Lower Midwest Regional manager. During Operation Christmas Child's National Collection Week Nov. 18 through 25, local residents can bring gift-filled shoeboxes to the new drop-off location at Calvary Bible Church in Jewell, Kansas during their designated hours to be released in late October. If you have any questions please contact Becky Fernandez at 785-428-2236, drop-off team leader. Operation Christmas Child hopes to reach another 12 million children in 2024 with the hope of Jesus.

For more information, visit samaritanspurse.org/occ. Participants can donate $10 per shoebox gift online through "Follow Your Box" and receive a tracking label to discover its destination. Those who prefer the convenience of online shopping can browse samaritanspurse.org/build on line to select gifts matched to a child's specific age and gender, then finish packing the virtual shoebox by adding a photo and personal note of encouragement. Many shoeboxes built online go to hard-to-reach countries.
