The house on the corner of N East and Madison was a total loss after an early morning fire last Thursday morning.

The Mankato Volunteer Fire Department was called about 3:30 last Thursday morning when it was discovered a house on East Street, near the Rock Hills Secondary School, was on fire.
The house had been unoccupied since the death of Bruce Burkhart though it was still full of his belongings. He died June 23. His two pet cats had been removed from the house at 2:30 the prior Wednesday afternoon.
The house and all contents were a total loss.
The fire was discovered when a law enforcement officer drove past, smelled smoke and stopped to investigate. The officer found rear of the house was on fire and called for the fire department.
Investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
