Vonda Pumarlo

Vonda E. Pumarlo, age 80, formerly of Burr Oak, Kansas and Concordia, Kansas died on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, Kansas. She was born on Aug. 16, 1943, on the family farm near Mahaska, Kansas, to C. "Mike" Marvin and Luella Maye (Smith) Hauschel.

She graduated from Morrowville High School. She received her CNA from Cloud County Community College and later her RN. She worked at the hospitals in Mankato, Beloit and Mt. Joseph Nursing Home, Concordia. She is most known for her loving care she gave as a hospice nurse for Hospice of the Heartland. She later became a nurse for the Cloud County Health Department and First Responder Coordinator for Cloud County. She ended her career in nursing as a CNA teacher and educator for Cloud County Community College and Concordia High School before she retired.

She married Robert "Bob" Pumarlo on Dec. 28, 1965, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Mankato. She and Bob lived in Burr Oak where they raised their three children before moving to Concordia in 1995. She and Bob spent their last year and a half together in Beloit.

She was most proud of her children, grandchildren and hospice care given to those in need. She enjoyed collecting rosaries and making new quilts for her grandchildren's births and other family babies. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, the Altar Society, International Nurses Association where she was named Nurse of the Year in 2017, and was an active Girl Scout Leader and involved in her local communities.

She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Pumarlo, Beloit; son, Wylie Pumarlo (Stefanie), Morganville, Kansas; daughters, Wendy Richmeier (Jeff), Hays, and Cyndi Reinert (Corey), Leawood, Kansas; brothers, Kenneth Hauschel (Kaye), Concordia, and Terry Hauschel (Deanna), Salina; sister, Marvene Gieber (Bill), Concordia; grandchildren, Corwyn, Michaela, Evyn, Sora, Kyler, Jamis, Jeffrey Jr., Gordon, Ethan, Owen, Ellie and Isaac; great- grandchildren, August and Evangeline and a host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian burial was at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, with Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating. Burial followed at Mahaska Cemetery, Mahaska. Visitation was from 1 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 12, with a rosary service at 6 p,m, and the family greeted friends following the rosary all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
