Superior dodged the brunt of a series of strong thunderstorms, some of which produced tornadoes, Saturday evening. The storms passed to the north of Nuckolls County with little to no rainfall reported. Nelson recorded .54 while Superior recorded zero precipitation.
Though the county avoided the storms, the effects were felt in Superior as residents faced a lack of water Sunday. A South Central Power District jumper line broke. This resulted in low to no water pressure from the Superior well fields. Power was restored Sunday morning.
The worst hit areas were north of Nuckolls County. More than 30 power poles were reported down in Clay County. At the height of the outage there were 732 electric meters off line. As of Monday morning, all residential service had been restored. There were two meters still off line.
The company lost circuits from Oak and Red Cloud. A line from Sutton broke and impacted a SCPPD line. The power district had adequate crews, equipment and supplies to rapidly react to the outages and restore power.
