The Jewell County Commissioners, Keith Roe, Ed Duskie and Brent Beck met Monday, July 1. Carla Waugh, county clerk, and Myka Zadina were present for the meeting.
Shannon Meier, ambulance director, discussed personnel.
The amended employment contract with James Vaughan IV, solid waste director was approved.
Elizabeth Ginther was appointed as board member to the Fairview Cemetery and Laurel Hill Cemetery.
The commissioners signed the 2025 budget engagement letter with Randy Hofmeier of Lindburg Vogel Pierce Faris Chartered.
The commissioners priced surplus furniture to sell to the public.
Jessica Fair, Kansas Department of Health & Environment, contacted Jewell County concerning the current burn ban resolution. She advised that it needed to include that a business must receive KDHE and local approval for burning. She said Jewell County needed to update their resolution.
Commissioners discussed and stated they oppose a 5-mile-wide transmission project that would pass through North Central Kansas. The commissioners were unanimously opposed to any eminent domain and any federal government overreach that would circumvent state siting laws, regulations and guidelines.
Amanda Davis, register of deeds, introduced Mark Hutton, Fidlar Technology. Mark provided background of the company, services and products they offer. He discussed the support services and plan levels. The contract for the software and hosting is for three years. Commissioners said they would table a decision until July 8.
Anna Porter, county appraiser, requested a 15 minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. Regular session resumed with no action taken.
