Clarice Hastings

Clarice Lue (Bottorf) Hastings was born May 31, 1936, fourth child of five children to Vernon and Irene Bottorf in Jewell, Kansas. She died on June 24, 2024, at the age of 88 years at her home in Jewell.

Clarice grew up on a farm southwest of Jewell and attended country schools, graduating from Jewell Rural High School with the Class of 1954.

Clarice married Emery L. Hastings on Feb. 22, 1955, making their home in Jewell. Born to this union were five children: David, Keith, Deanna, Delores and Daniel. Emery and Clarice enjoyed 39 years together before Emery's death in 1994.

Clarice's family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed helping whenever and wherever she was needed.

Preceding Clarice in death were her parents; her husband; brother, Gerald Bottorf; and sister, Betty Bowlin.

Survivors include her five children: David (Pam) Hastings, Esbon; Keith of Jewell; Deanna (Bob) Freeman, Jewell; Delores (Bob) Angleton, Mankato; Daniel (Michelle) Hastings, Sparta, Missouri; sisters, Virginia (Leonard) Duskie of Ionia, and Linda Betz of Sierra Vista, Arizona; grandchildren: Zachariah (Kassidy) Hastings, Kirbyville, Missouri, Savannah (Jon) Bridges, Bella Vista, Arkansas, Chris (Shanna) Freeman, Wakefield; Bobi (Chad) Fogo, Mankato; Jason (Jennifer) Hastings, Harwich, Massachusetts; Dustan Hastings, Harwich, Massachusetts; Ryan (Heidi) Hastings, Springfield, Missouri; Garrett Hastings, Oklahoma; Marc (Toni) Hastings, Harveyville, Kansas; Tom (Sammi) Hastings, Scranton, Kansas; Danny (Josie) Hastings, Longmont, Colorado; Lacy (Andrew) Unruh, Canon City, Colorado; Heather (Dave) Relph, Salina; Ashlyn (Luke) Bishop, Longmont, Colorado; Justin (Mandy) Angleton, Esbon; Neita Bange, Hudson, Colorado; Jeff Mizner, Bellingham, Washington. Clarice was also survived by 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation was Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Kleppinger Funeral Home, Jewell, Kansas.

A graveside service was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Jewell City Cemetery, Jewell.
