Computer upgrades approved

The Jewell County Commissioners met Monday, June 17. Commissioners Keith Roe, Ed Duskie and Brent Beck were present, along with Carla Waugh, county clerk, and Myka Zadina.

Amanda Davis reported the death of former register of deeds, Anna Morgan. It was decided the county would send a memorial in her honor.

The commissioners discussed the voucher submitted for the conference in Montana with Cindy Becker, health administrator.

Anna Porter, county appraiser, discussed adding a temporary part-time person.

Mechelle Caprez, DCCCA, telephoned to discuss the health department’s conference at the Big Sky Resort in Montana. She said the conference is fully funded with grant funds. It is to learn how to build healthier, safer, and more positive communities.

The commissioners approved the Cummins battery replacement for the courthouse generator.

The Tech Electronics agreement for the fire alarm inspection was approved.

Tanya Paul, DVACK, read the Elder Abuse Awareness Month Proclamation. The commissioners proclaimed June as Elder Abuse Awareness Month.

Shannon Rothchild, Nex-Tech, discussed options to upgrade or replace eight computers with Windows 10 Home or Windows 11 Home.

Commissioners approved to upgrade three computers and move five computers to the all-inclusive program at $210 per month for 60 months.

Mike Bolte telephoned to express his concerns on D Road from 150 Road to Highway 14. He said it was dangerous because of the potholes. Mike said it hasn’t been graded in two months.

The meeting was adjourned.

Jewell County commissioners hosted a multi-county meeting at the Lovewell Marina with Mitchell, Smith and Osborne counties present. Commissioner Keith Roe welcomed everyone to Jewell County and introduced guests, Thane Loring, Lovewell State Park manager and Anthony Roy, Mankato city administrator. Thane said they have four full-time employees and eight seasonal employees, 155 utility camping sites, nine cabins, 300 primitive camping sites, 56 trailer homes and 62 private cabins. They have approximately 300,000 visitors each year. The commissioners discussed the USD 273 bond; disposal of the old hospital building in Smith County; wages; filling open positions; health insurance costs; and budgets. Mitchell County will host the next meeting on Monday, Sept. 16 at the new Mitchell County fair building in Beloit.
