Area fire departments benefit from grant funds

Several area volunteer fire departments were recipients of fire fighting foam thanks to a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust.

The foam is Micro-Blaze, the only microbial Class A and B spill firefighting agent which helps prevent flashback. It can be used on structural, tire, barn and hay and hydrocarbon spill fires as well as industrial water spills. The foam has a 10 year shelf life.

The grant allowed 1,000 gallons of foam to be distributed to 13 departments which are members of the South Central Mutual Aid group.

The volunteer fire departments of Edgar, Clay Center, Nelson, Hardy, Lawrence, Superior and Ruskin are among the beneficiaries of the grant.

A representative from the supplier will host training sessions when the departments receive their allotment.
