The Jewell County Commissioners met May 28, 2024. Commissioners Keith Roe, Ed Duskie and Brent Beck were present. Carla J. Waugh, county clerk, attended the meeting.
The following were present for the office head meeting and provided an update for their department: Chris Petet, custodian; Don Jacobs, sheriff; Cindy Becker, health administrator; and Carla J. Waugh, county clerk. Those absent: Amanda Davis, register of deeds; Anna Porter, county appraiser; James A. Vaughan IV, solid waste director; Shannon Meier, ambulance director; Scott Wright, county attorney; Joel Elkins, general superintendent; Nora Rhoades, Post Rock Extension District director and Brenda Eakins, treasurer, and Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator.
Chris Petet discussed issues with the boiler room door.
Cindy Becker said Nex-Tech switched over all computers in her department last week. She attended an immunization conference. She is working on budgets to be submitted.
Don Jacobs, sheriff, said several from the department attended the KCIKIS conference. He said Jeremy Luedke and K-9 Rambo attended certification training. Don said a taser re-certification class for the department is scheduled. He discussed the fire marshal’s inspection for the jail.
Carla Waugh said her office has sent out budget request information to the 25 townships, six fire districts and 12 cemetery districts along with all of the county departments. Carla said they have applied for a domain name on behalf of Jewell County to set up new email accounts.
Brent Beck said he has received road concerns. Ed Duskie said he attended the Jewell County Council on Aging meeting. He has received several calls concerning the LEPG committee and calls about maintaining dirt roads. Keith Roe said he attended the JCCDA meeting.
Don Jacobs requested an executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. Commissioners went into executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. Regular session resumed with no action taken.

Commissioners approved signing the Jewell County Solid Waste Director Employment Agreement.
