Commissioners hear concerns about T Road

The Jewell County Commissioners met Monday, May 20. Commissioners Keith Roe, Ed Duskie and Brent Beck and Carla Waugh, county clerk, were present for the meeting.

Sheila Nelson-Stout, president and chief executive officer of OCCK, said the organization has served 5,009 people throughout Kansas in 2023 and 96 of those were in Jewell County. OCCK has returned $437,179 to Jewell County in wages. Sheila also said the 2025 budget request will remain the same as 2024. Patrick Wallerius, chief financial officer, discussed the public transportation services provided. Kendra Krier, vice president of rural outreach and services, reported on the infant and toddler services provided to Jewell County residents. Susan Sprague, vice president of expansion and communication, reviewed the screening tools available for Alzheimer’s support and the assessment with an occupational therapist for in home assistance. She said they provided home care for 16 Jewell County residents. She said they also assisted with Medicare and insurance questions.

Sherry Koster, Jewell County Conservation District, manager, presented the 2025 budget request which is the same amount as the 2024 Budget.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, said they completed rocking one mile of road by Esbon. They were working on the south end of the Randall road. Carla Waugh reported Mark and Tammy Finnell’s concerns about repairs needed on T Road going west from Highway 128. They were concerned of safety for senior drivers with the condition of the road.

The commissioners went into executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. Regular session resumed with no action taken.
