The 18th Annual Edgar American Legion Post 248 Motorcycle Poker Run was Sunday, hosted by the Edgar American Legion Riders Chapter (ALR). The day started with a thunderstorm rolling in as participants arrived at the Edgar Legion to register and receive their maps for the ride.
A motorcycle rider never knows what the weather will be, but is prepared to ride safe. Signing in to register were 81 brave riders who took the day's weather in stride. Several put on rain suits to stay dry. The convertible cars rode with tops on for most of the trip.
The first destination on the route was ridden in the rain to Scotty's in Marquette, Nebraska. The next ride was still a bit wet as they rode to the Doniphan American Legion Post 300. The third stop was to Glenvil American Legion Post 26. The final leg of the ride was in sunshine and fair weather back to the Edgar Legion.
The participants were provided a taco bar meal and given a chance to win door prizes donated by the ALR as the scores were tallied. Proceeds from the 50-50 are applied to the yearly donation Edgar ALR sends to the American Legion Legacy Scholarship fund. The American Legion's Legacy Scholarship provides college funding to children of post-9/11 veterans who died on active duty, or those who have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater.
