RHHS sending large group to state meet

All the practice and hard work has paid off for the Rock Hills High School boys and girls track and field teams when they competed at the regional meet at Washington High School Saturday.

The girls team finished in ninth place, with 32 points, in the 25 team field. The boys were in fifth place, with 33 points, in the 20 team field.

Bethany Simmelink set a school record in the 200 meter dash with her state qualifying time of 27.02 seconds and a fourth place finish.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team of B. Simmelink, Halle Mizner, Alivia Lindberg and HAnnah Simmelink set a new school record and qualified for state with their time of 10:51.1 and third place.

Mizner qualified for a trip to Wichita in the high jump when she cleared 5' and earned second place points.

The boys 4 x 100 meter dash relay team of Isaiah Ridgeway, Camden Ward, Cooper McDill and Nate Meyers qualified for the state meet with their time of 45.37 seconds and fourth place.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Trystn Reynolds, Justin Luong, Kobi Bowers and Cooper McDill earned a berth at state with their time of 8:30.04.

Camden Ward earned a place at state with his fourth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles and the time of 16.64 seconds.

Ward qualified for place at state in the high jump when he cleared the bar at 5'8" and fourth place.

Meyers claimed a spot at state in the long jump with his leap of 21'8" and second place.

Eli Whelchel secured a place at state for the javelin with his throw of 151'10" and fourth place.

Several other Grizzly athletes also competed but were unable to advance to the state meet.

Aaron Underwood competed in the discus.

B. Simmelink and Grace Ayers took part in the 100 meter dash preliminary heats.

Savannah Coil took part in the 400 meter dash.

H. Simmelink and Lindberg competed in the 800 meter run.

Lindberg participated in the 1600 meter dash.

Ayers entered the long jump.

Coil competed in the triple jump.

Faith Reinert and Joyce Cady took part in the shot put.

Cady was in the discus throw event.

Carsyn Vizner competed in the javelin throw.

The Grizzlies travel to Wichita for the state meet Friday and Saturday.The meet is staged at Cessna Stadium at Wichita State University.
