Entries sought from southern Nebraska

Area residents are invited to participate virtually in the Tyler Vanderheiden Memorial Run anywhere and anytime Friday through Sunday. The actual run will depart from Cody Park in North Platte at 8 a.m. Saturday and will feature two-mile and five-mile road routes.

The race honors the memory of Tyler Vanderheiden, a young man who struggled with mental illness. The race is sponsored by his family, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and Platte River Fitness. All proceeds from the race will go to Nebraska Game and Parks for the creation, maintenance or upgrade of trails and open spaces within the state park system.

This year a goal of the promoters is to attract participants from each of Nebraska’s 93 counties. As of Monday, Nuckolls was one of the 22 counties they did not have participants from. They already have registrations from several states and Canada. Registration information is available at http://www.tylervanderheidenmemorial.com.

Memorial Day Services are planned throughout the area. The following includes information we have received about the services but we are positive, not everyone shared their schedule with this newspaper.

The Nelson American Legion Post will conduct services at the Salem Cemetery at 8:30, Nora Cemetery at 9:30, Nelson Cemetery at 10:30, and the Veterans Plaza in downtown Nelson at 11:30. A meal open to the public will follow at the Nelson Legion Building.
