Love my crazy life

I’m sorry to say I don’t have much to write about this week. With the wedding over and things back to regular business, it’s pretty quiet around here. The two younger boys were here for the weekend, which stirred things up a bit. Nicholas had a baseball game on Friday, so that made our Omaha trip 10 hours instead of the usual seven. Although it made for a long day, I’m glad we got to see him play. We don’t get too many chances to attend those types of events with the distance between us.

Jack was in a mood when we picked him up. He had had a bad day at work; Insert big eye roll here! He is a typical 18-year-old. He knows everything. I can’t wait for this stage of puberty to be over with. Nicky has finally fallen into that sweet spot where he isn’t crazy and raging against the world. It won’t last long, but I plan to enjoy it for the short time it’s here. The only time he’s a handful is when his brother is pushing his buttons. It’s hard to believe that just a year ago the roles were reversed.

We had to be up early on Sunday to meet their mom at nine. They offered to meet halfway, only because Nicky had another game, and his stepdad and mom are his team’s coaches. We stopped in York on the way home to pick up a few groceries. George decided he would be getting me up early to do the grocery shopping from now on because I was too tired to think about more than what we absolutely needed and wanted to get home. He hates shopping and leaving the house, and when I’m tired, so do I. Therefore, if he drags me out early, he thinks it will get done faster.

I got the garden in, finally. I hope it does well this year, more to the tune, I hope I keep up with it this year. I’ve gone out of my comfort zone and planted more than my typical tomatoes, beans and peppers. This year I have added sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots, radishes, beets and corn. I’m hoping to have plenty to put up this fall, and praying that I don’t blow up the kitchen with the pressure canner. I am so afraid of using that thing by myself because honestly, that is something I can see happening.

Once again I need to clean the house. It’s not bad if you can avoid seeing the piles of pet hair scattered throughout. I’m so anal about it that once I see one rolling across the floor like a lone tumbleweed, my first impulse is to pull the house apart and remove all evidence of having pets at all. I’m not sure where I got this idea of “better homes and gardens clean” from, but I wish I could give it a rest. I could walk around with the dust-buster 24-7 and it still wouldn’t be clean enough. It’s almost like I have dual personalities, clean freak and messy molly. I wish the two could meet halfway, maybe then I wouldn’t have so much anxiety.

I have three goals for this week, number one; keeping my plants alive. I tend to forget the plants when I’m dealing with pet hair or working on the pool. Number two; getting everything ready to rock and roll at the pool for once the paint is done and cured, and number three; getting rid of the pet hair flying around my house. LOL! I think those are reasonable goals, although they will be the goals for every week for the entire summer. X’s & O’s.
