The Nebraska high school track season is the shortest sports season in the school calendar. And it is often disrupted by stormy spring weather.
However, it also carries an intense interest. It has many events carried out right on top on one-another. For spectators, it carries a lot of interest. For those involved, it can be a lot of work.
The end of the season came last week as high schools across the state took part in the district meets to see would qualify for the state meet in Omaha this week Friday and Saturday.
The L-N Raiders traveled to Kenesaw for their district meet. Two Raiders, one boy and one girl, were among the best in the state and will compete in Omaha this weekend.
Sydney Biltoft continued her success in the hurdle events. She earned another gold medal in the 300M Hurdles with a time of 49.4. She earned another silver in the 100M Hurdles with a time of 16.64.
Sydney has also been running the 400M Dash in recent meets. At Kenesaw, she placed 3rd with a time of 1:03.81. In the running events, the top two earn the automatic place at the state meet. However, they also give the next fastest six runners a 'wild card' entry to Omaha. As such Sydney will be competing in all three events in Omaha.
Sawyer Cox was the lone Raider boy to earn a place in Omaha. At Kenesaw he place 3rd in the discus with a throw of 130'5". Again, the top two earn the automatic entry to Omaha, but they give wild card entries to the next six best throws. Sawyer was one of these six.
Just like any sport, participants and spectators hope everyone improves over the season. This seemed to be true in this track season as many set new Personal Records (PR) at this meet.
