Cortney Clark

Cortney Marie (Schields) Clark, 38, of Courtland, Kansas, peacefully died on May 5th, 2024, surrounded by her family after a courageous, two-year battle with breast cancer.

Born on July 31, 1985, in Goodland, Kansas, Cortney was the daughter of Brad and Dana Schields. She was a proud graduate of Goodland High School with the Class of 2004. Cortney furthered her education at Kansas State University and went on to work as a registered dietician for many years sharing her passion for health and nutrition.

On Au. 25, 2012, Cortney happily married Wes Clark and together they established their home as the fourth generation to live on the Clark family farm near Courtland, Kansas. They were blessed with three beautiful children, Jaxi (10), Kaydan (8), and Lainey (4) who were the joy of Cortney's life. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and entertaining on their beautiful farmstead.

The Courtland community quickly became the home she loved and she found ways to give back by volunteering to lead crafts at her church's Wednesday school and planting flowers downtown for Courtland Pride. Cortney's love knew no bounds, as evidenced by the unwavering closeness she shared with her family and the lifelong friendships she made wherever she went. Throughout her journey, her steadfast faith continued to strengthen no matter the challenge ahead, which serves as an enduring inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Cortney is survived by her devoted husband, Wes, and their beloved children, Jaxi, Kaydan and Lainey. She also leaves behind her loving parents, Brad and Dana Schields; her sisters, and best friends, Brittany Schields, Lindsay (Ryder) Kling of Goodland, and Whitney (Dylan) Bainter of Hoxie; her grandmother-in-law, Beverly Sothers; father-in-law, Jack Clark; brothers-in-law, Thayne (Lacey) Clark, Tyler (Kirby) Clark of Courtland; and sister-in-law, Kayce (Blake) Mayer of Council Grove, Kansas; along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Kaylene Clark; grandparents, Don and Freda Deeds and Fred and Darlene Schields; and grandparents-in-law, Ray and Donna Clark, and Ralph Sothers.

Her funeral was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 11, at the Courtland United Methodist Church, followed by burial at the Rosemound Cemetery, South Hardy, Nebraska.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Courtland United Methodist Church with family present from 4 to 6 p.m.

In her brief time on this earth, Cortney made an impact on all who knew her. She will be known for her unwavering strength, self-less kindness, and unforgettable humor. While she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on through her beautiful children and the memories she created with all who loved her.
