Joyce Loraine (Oliver) Fullerton, the daughter of Guy and Dorothy (Scarrow) Oliver, was born on Aug. 14, 1934, in Mankato, Kansas. She died Nov. 16, 2023, at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital at Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 3 months, 2 days.
Joyce grew up with her family of six brothers and one sister. She attended and graduated high school in Burr Oak, Kansas.
After graduating, she moved to California to live with her aunt and work. A year later, feeling homesick, she moved back home to Burr Oak, to be closer to family. Joyce went to work for Armor, JC Penney's, The Superior Express and her final career starting in 1977, was secretary at the Superior High School all in Superior, Nebraska. She retired at the age of 63.
Joyce was united in marriage to Elmer LeRoy Fullerton on Dec. 30, 1955, in Fairbury, Nebraska. During their 66 years of marriage, they were blessed with three children. Throughout her lifetime of her favorite things to do included traveling, camping and fishing, and most of the time there were grandchildren with them. She found great joy in the family getting together to share dinners, reminiscing, laughing and even to cry. Every September, Joyce looked forward to her family reunion, seeing extended family and catching up on their lives. She loved the Christmas Season, not only because it meant family time, but she loved collecting decorations and especially snowmen of all kinds. She also collected dishes and owls of all shapes, sizes and colors. And, as everyone knows, Joyce and Roy enjoyed going out to eat and taking their "daily" rides around town in the old pickup.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer (Roy) Fullerton; parents, Guy and Dorothy Oliver; daughter, Cynthia Fullerton; four brothers: Richard, Harold, Percy and David.
Survivors include her son, Bruce (Linda) Fullerton of Superior and daughter Rita Higer of Republic, Missouri; five grandchildren: Tristyn "Nici" Higer, Crisha Higer (David) Mullins, Joshua (Emily) Fullerton, Jared Fullerton, Rebecca "Becky" Fullerton; 11 great-grandchildren: Vance, Bradlee, Madison, Kenley, Kellan, Sophia, Isabella "Izzy", Kyalin, Bryler, Stella and Mavrick; her siblings, Carol Peters, Carl Gene Oliver and Guy Oliver; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Her funeral will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Vestey Center in Superior, Nebraska. Come reminisce with the family and celebrate Joyce's beautiful life.
