Nuckolls Co. Schools will host commencements Saturday

Saturday is the day for members of the Nuckolls County high school’s senior classes of 2024 to receive their high school diplomas.

Commercement exercises are planned for both the Lawrence-Nelson and Superior high schools.

Superior will lead off the festivities with a commencement program scheduled for 2 p.m.in the high school gym. Lawrence-Nelson follows at 4 p.m. with a service in the high school gym at Nelson.

For both schools the senior classes are smaller than has been the norm in recent years. The L-N class has 17 members. The Superior class has 23 members.

This year marks the 137th annual commencement exercise for Superior High School. Lady Vestey, then known as Evaline Brodstone, was a member of Superior’s first high school senior class.The commencement exercise was held in the Superior Opera House which was located on the second floor of the building which now houses Gary Thompson Insurance and Linda’s Treasurers.

“There are no goodbyes for us. Where ever you are, you will always be in my heart,” is this year’s Superior Class of 2024 motto. The motto is a quote from Mahatma Gandhi. The class has chosen sage green and white for the class colors and the white carnation at the class flower.

Both graduation exercises will be open to the public.
