Commissioners discuss insurance for employees

Jewell County Commissioners Keith Roe, Ed Duskie, and Brent Beck met April 22. Carla Waugh, county clerk, was present for the meeting.

Brenda Eakins, treasurer, discussed personnel.

Steve Melnick, Colonial Insurance, discussed coverage for part-time employees. The commissioners said the policy for payroll deductions is for full-time employees only as part-time employees are not guaranteed hours.

Keith Roe was appointed as the non-lawyer member of the 12th District Judicial Nominating Commission for a term of March 4, 2024, to March 6, 2028.

James Vaughan IV, solid waste director, discussed purchasing a used 48-foot solid waste disposal trailer from Cloud County for $35,000. He also discussed the purchase price of a new walking floor trailer and a tipping trailer.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, reported the dozer is at Foley’s being repaired. He discussed hiring personnel. Commissioners discussed road concerns.
