Dispatch road conditions discussed at commissioners'meeting

The Jewell County Commissioners met April 8. Commissioners Ed Duskie, and Brent Beck, and Carla Waugh, county clerk, were present for the meeting.

Mike Nyhoff, Wil Browers and Roy Debey, from the Dispatch Reform Church area, discussed the condition of a 2-mile stretch of 10 Road A.K.A. Dispatch Road. They said it is a high traffic road with potholes and ruts, along with thin spots. They reported the retaining wall is deteriorating on the bridge at the county line south of Dispatch. They provided pictures of the bridge walls. The commissioners said they would discuss these issues with Joel Elkins, general superintendent.

The commissioners discussed applicants for the open position at solid waste with James Vaughan, solid waste director. Vaughan reported on the search for trailers.

Ed Duskie discussed the road and bridge concerns in the Dispatch area with Joel Elkins. He also discussed a culvert issue in Esbon township. Elkins reviewed the tire bids opened the prior week. The commissioners approved the bid of $22,230.00 from Midway Co-op, Inc.

The commissioners approved the final payment of $45,676.11 to Cottonwood Restoration LLC for the hail damage repairs to the solid waste buildings.
