Love my crazy life

It’s a nice warm blustery Monday and I’m waiting for the weather radio to tell me we are in one type of severe weather watch or the other for it feels like that kind of day. I was hoping for more spring-like weather, like 60 degrees during the day and 40 at night, with a few soaking rainy days but I suppose Mother Nature has other plans for us.

It’s now Tuesday morning. I got sidetracked and didn’t get back to my ramblings, but I was correct, it was definitely that kind of day. Early this morning, around 2:45, my phone woke me with a weather alert. A tornado warning had been issued for parts of Nuckolls County but from the information provided, I didn’t figure it would involve us. Duke needed to potty anyway so I went out on the porch for a look-see. Not long after I got up, George did as well and he followed me to the porch. At first, I didn’t think anything would come of the weather except rain and wind. Then I started to hear it.

I asked George and sure enough he could hear it as well. It sounded like a not-so-distant train, and like a good midwesterner, I stayed on the porch until the rain went horizontal, and about then the sirens went off. My loving husband, who is not a midwestern by birth, made me go to the basement.

After all the excitement settled down, I attempted to go back to bed, but the power went out around four and it was too hot upstairs without the fans going. George was getting ready for work and had made a pot of coffee. I couldn’t let that go to waste, so I got myself a cup and began the task of finding where I had hidden the candles.

We had another round of storms roll through around five I believe. This round came with a little bit of hail in it and was enough to cool the upstairs so that I could sleep. I’m not sure when the power came back on, but thankfully it did. I wouldn’t make a good pioneer. I am quite fond of my indoor plumbing and power, and thankful for those who keep it up and running.

The weatherman says we may have more severe storms. I hope it’s only rain, but I’m afraid we may be in for a bumpy spring. X’s & O’s.
