The green, green grass of spring is slowly growing high enough that the old, brown grass of last autumn is being covered. Traveling the country side a person can see players on golf courses around central Nebraska.
Yes Sir . . . the Golf Season is here for Nebraska High Schools.
As such, L-N High School got the season started last week with participation in the Superior Quad Golf Meet. The four teams included: Superior, L-N, Red Cloud and BDS.
The first thing to notice was that the event took place sooner than planned on the school calendar, and secondly, and more importantly, the L-N Raiders won the event. The team results were: (9 holes played)
L-N: 165
Red Cloud: 173
Superior: 184
BDS: 192
Five players golf in these events with the best four scores used for team totals. The varsity team for this meet included: Connor Janda, Bayln Bargen, Jacob Kathman, Clay Williams and Carsen Vaughn.
The top five individual scores were as follows: Colten Butler of Superior and Lucas Armstrong of Red Cloud tied for 1st with scores of 37; 3rd place went to Bayln Bargen of L-N with 39; 4th place was earned by Connor Janda with 40 and 5th earned by Jacob Kathman with 41. Clay Williams scored a 46 and Carsen Vaughn had 45.
L-N was the only team to field a full junior varsity team at this meet. Their results showed the following: Nathan Pofahl, 41; Caden Culbertson 43; Hayden Mazour 43; Cody Brockman 51; Nolan Ostdiek 57.
Nathan, Caden and Hayden had the three lowest scores for the JV.
