Lloyd L. Hanson, 84, of Rossville, Kansas, died Saturday, March 16, 2024. He was born the son of Harry C. and Ruth F. (Dunstan) Hanson on April 18, 1939, in Mankato, Kansas.
He attended school in Mankato and graduated in 1957. Lloyd married his high school sweetheart, Mary B. Stone, on May 26, 1957, in Mankato. Together, they celebrated 66 years of marriage. During their time in Mankato, Lloyd and Mary attended Burr Oak Church of the Nazarene in Burr Oak, Kansas, until recently becoming members of Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene in Topeka, Kansas.
Lloyd was born on the farm, which instilled his love of the land. During that time, he farmed more than 1,700 acres of wheat and hay, milked approximately 40 cattle, raised 30 to 50 sows and hundreds of chickens. He had quite a few hobbies including playing different types of instruments, fishing, restoring antique tractors, attending auctions and collecting useful junk. His ability to find purpose in one man's junk had him tinkering in the shop to create new items with purpose and fixing things others deemed unfixable. Lloyd loved deeply and therefore was deeply loved by all who knew him. In his quiet way, he had a gift of making sure each person in his family knew they were special, valued and cared for. He always told his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. Lloyd had the patience of Job and a peaceful presence. When spending time with him and helping him on the farm, if we broke implements or fence lines, didn't hand him the right tools or stood in the wrong place while corralling pigs or cows, he never got angry or upset. In his quiet, gentle way, he took the time to teach us. Everyone in the family wanted to be like him as he lived his life as Jesus did; not only did he never throw junk away, he also never threw relationships away. Each person mattered to him. He invited them into his home and became a friend to those that needed one the most. Lloyd, "Daddy, Papa, Grandpa on the Farm, Grandpa Pigs, Great-pa" - was our hero, our teacher, our number one supporter, leader of our family and so much more!
