Community Building Fundraiser adds $40,000 to Building efforts

". . . and a good time was had by all . . ." (To use an old quote.)

That was a common emotion by the (just under) 200 people who attended the St. Patrick's Day theme 'Fund Raiser' dinner and social event at the Lawrence American Legion Hall last Saturday evening. Another approximately 25 people from the community were working to make sure everyone attending enjoyed their evening.

The results of the evening was that an additional $40,000 plus or minus will be added to the building fund for the new community center for Lawrence. The total exceeded the 2023 total by a small amount. The committee will review the total fund status at their next meeting.

Saturday's venue followed the pattern of previous years to a large extent. Starting off with a social, everyone enjoyed a delicious prime rib dinner with the meat prepared by David Kohmetscher. The Dueling Pianos followed and the two musicians performed for about three hours with breaks in between for several auctions and raffles to take place.

There were numerous auction items donated by numerous individuals. A set of three items (gardening, outdoor items, and kids) were donated by Larry and Mary Faimon, Rich and Karen Faimon and Don Faimon in memory of their sister, Marlene Faimon, who died several years ago, but was instrumental in starting the concept of a new community building for Lawrence.

Something new added this year was an "on-line" ability for many of the auction items.

Winners of the raffle were: Cindy Buescher, Taytum Kohmetscher, Tim Himmelberg, Kevin Pohlmeier and Garrett Hofstetter.

The building committee members expressed their thankfulness to all the volunteers who made the evening such a success, and to everyone who came to support the effort to see a new community building erected on Main Street of Lawrence. They noted that it is never too late to donate towards the effort.
