The Jewell County Cinema, Inc. (JCCI) Board met Feb. 26, at the Mankato Christian Church and on Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Thadd Hinkle. Members present were Thadd Hinkle, Phyllis Christie, Sarah Ortman, Lisa Goodheart and Janis McDill. Linda and Virgil Jones attended by Zoom.
The minutes of the January meeting were accepted by consensus.
Janis McDill reported “Migration” and “The Boys in the Boat” did well. It was suggested $2,000 be moved into checking from the funds being held in the Mankato Endowment account to be used to repair the marquee or to upgrade the air conditioning. The suggestion was approved.
In old business, the Sonic company has completed all the updates and repairs needed to the projection system, including installing a new lamp. They will send shipping labels so the circuit boards they did not use can be shipped back to them. Virgil Jones said he had been trying to research parts for the popcorn machine kettle, but wasn’t successful. Phyllis Christie said she has the book that came with the machine and will look at the parts list. Receipts from purchasing the Christmas decorations used in the theater were presented to the board and a motion to reimburse Sarah Ortman $65.00 was approved. Discussion was held on trying to find more projectionists. More volunteers are needed to run the theater.
In new business, movie posters will be distributed to locations in Republic County. Discussion was held on “The Hill” and whether or not the theater should show other “extra” movies. Jewell County Cinema, Inc. will pay $30 in dues to the Mankato Chamber of Commerce. Steve Christie will be asked to evaluate the HVAC system in the theater and give the board an estimate and recommendations. The ice cream social will be Saturday, Aug. 17. The Easter Sunday movie will be shown at 7:30 p.m. instead of 3 p.m. “Argylle” will be shown this coming weekend, “Ordinary Angels” will be shown for two weeks, and “Kung Fu Panda 4” may be scheduled for Easter weekend. Other movies discussed were “Bob Marley: One Love,” “Dune: Part 2,” “Madame Web,” “Arthur the King,” “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” and “Ghostbusters, Frozen Empire.” It was approved for a birthday party at the theater on Saturday, April 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. A form will need to be filled out for the request. Contact Phyllis if you are interested in volunteering.
The next meeting will be Monday, March 25.
