The Jewell County commissioners met Tuesday, Feb. 20. Commissioners Keith Roe, Ed Duskie, and Brent Beck were present. Carla J. Waugh, county clerk, was present for the meeting.
Commissioners went into executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. Regular session resumed with no action taken.
Scott Wright, county attorney, discussed Rick Peters’ concerns about the road on the property line and reviewed the statute. Scott said Mr. Peters needs to petition the commissioners with more specific information including a legal description of the property in question. Scott also discussed increasing internet security for county electronic communications. He said with the increase of cyber-attacks, it is best practice to be proactive. The commissioners concluded they could not create a new road. Although it is less convenient, the landowner has access to the tract of land through his own land.

Ed Duskie discussed the LEPG Advisory Board and reported a special meeting was called for Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Jewell County Courthouse.
Joel Elkins, general superintendent, provided a map of FAS roads in Jewell County. Elkins said the average cost to rock one mile of road is $23,100 plus $2,040 per mile to put gravel on the road. He said they are rocking 50 Road starting at V Road. He discussed selling surplus equipment at the Becker & Bouray Consignment Auction on Sunday, April 7.

Garst, solid waste director, immediately. In accordance with his employment agreement, he will be paid for 30 days from the date of termination.
