`The Superior High School girls basketball team couldn’t quite find their way out of an early deficit in their District C-2-7 final game against Cross County High School at Stromsburg Friday.
The Wildcats would get close only to be separated by a few points. In the end they were eliminated from post-season play with a 52-42 loss.
The Wildcats fell behind 17-10 after the first quarter of play. They shaved a point off the lead to trail 28-22 at the end of the second quarter. Despite their best efforts, Superior was unable to close the gap as the game progressed, trailing the Cougars 37-30 headed into the fourth quarter. They were unable to shut down the Cross County offense and saw their post season hopes end with a 52-42 loss.
For seniors Lilly Edwards and Madison Heusinkvelt, the game marked the end of their Wildcat basketball career. The team will return an experienced group of underclassmen next season who will look to improve upon this season’s 17-9 record.
