L-N Lady Raiders end season as District Runner-up

The two games won in the sub-district tournament allowed the L-N Lady Raiders to move on to the district championship game to qualify for the state tournament. The girls were the 16th seeded team and were matched up with the number one Seeded team, Overton.

The game was played out west on the edge of the Sand Hills in Overton.

Overton is the number Seed in the District games and will most likely be the number one Seed at the State tournament. They had little trouble in scoring and their defense was able to slow down the Raiders. The score by quarters:

L-N 7 8 0 4 - 19

Overton 19 21 17 8 - 65

The game was a sad ending to a season that was beginning to show more promise each game. The girls started the season winning only two of their first seven games. However, at the end of the season, they won five of their last eight games which included the winning of the sub-district tournament. In this game, Overton just dominated and had too many players that controlled the game.

L-N did shoot 31 percent for the game, and an interesting statistic was in the number of fouls called. L-N was called for 17 personal fouls while Overton had only eight.

The 2023-24 Lady Raiders had a new coach this season in Mr. Dan Kennedy. They ended the season with an 8-16 record with five of those victories come at the end of the season indicating the improvement seen in the team.

There are three seniors who played their final game of the season in the district tournament who will be missed next year. They are: Sydney Biltoft, Jessica Sole and Danyelle Church.

Coaches this year were Dan Kennedy and Beth Himmelberg.
