The Lawrence-Nelson girls basketball team was faced with a harsh reality Friday as they faced off against the Overton eagles, at Overton, in the District D2-1 final game. The Raiders, despite winning their sub-district bracket, were pitted against the number one seed.
The results were predictable. Overton opened up a 40-15 lead at the halfway mark and was never challenged as the Eagles cruised to a 63 19 win and a place at the state championship tournament at Lincoln.
The loss left the Raiders with an 8-16 record for the complete season.
For seniors Sydney Biltoft, Jessica Sole and Claire Himmelberg, the game marked the end of their high school basketball career. They team played hard all season and never gave up no matter what adversities they faced.
