L-N girls earn way into district finals

The Lawrence-Nelson High School girls basketball team proved they belong despite their season record.

The Raiders made easy work of their sub-district bracket. They edged out Palmer at host school Heartland Lutheran’s court in Grand Island last Tuesday, 36-28. They secured their place in the district finals with a convincing 39-28 win over Heartland Lutheran at Grand Island Thursday

It took a ferocious comebak for the Raiders to pull this game out. They trailed 19-14 at the halfway mark. Lawrence-Nelson pumped up the offense and reined in Heartland Lutheran’s offense to outscore their opponenet 25-9 over the third and fourth quarters to cement the win.

Kara Menke led the Raiders against Heartland Lutheran with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Sydney Biltoft kicked in nine points. Addi McCloskey, Hanna Skinner and Jessica Sole accounted or six points apiece.

The Raiders just can’t catch a break though. As a reward for their hard work and perserverance after a season with an unbalanced strength of schedule, they earned the right to take on number one D2 district finals seed Overton, at Overton, Friday with tip off time at 6 p.m. If the Raiders can pull off this upset, then look out state.
