Toss for Cancer
Thank you to everyone who attended the Lawrence-Nelson versus Superior basketball games on Friday, Feb. 9, and participated in the fundraiser hosted by the Class of 2029 for the Nuckolls County Cancer Stomp This fundraiser was a part of their English unit “Change Agent.” In this unit, students read stories and articles about how youngsters made changes for themselves, their communities and around the world. The class wanted to make a difference in their community by organizing a fundraiser for the Nuckolls County Cancer Stomp.
To organize this fundraiser, students had to develop a pitch to ask Mr. Blevins for approval to hold their fundraiser during the basketball game, write invitations to fair board members, plan and organize how the fundraiser would be run, write a thank you to Pepsi for donating Gatorade, and write a reflection about the process and how they felt when it was all over. The fundraiser was called “Toss for Cancer.” Drinks such as Gatorade, Hawaiian Punch and juice boxes were set up for a ring toss. If a ring landed around a drink, then the person won that drink. A donation box was also passed around the gym during the games. L-N’s Class of 2029 cannot thank everyone enough for their contribution to the Nuckolls County Cancer Stomp. The donation will help individuals in Nuckolls County going through their cancer journey.
Anthony Beale, Adriyanna Mazour and Stella Williams presented a check of $884.25 to the Nuckolls County Fairboard. Members present at the basketball game: Kaci Schroer, Nicole Thayer, Amy Schroer, Stella Williams, Adriyanna Mazour, Anthony Beale, Dustin Cassel, Cole Epley and Taylor Linch.
