Mankato City Council approves money for dump truck-plow for city

The regular meeting of the Mankato City Council was called to order by the mayor, Justin Schoonover Feb. 5. Councilmembers present were Sam Becker, Kevin Ost, Stuart Boyles and Rodney Payne. Councilman George Hennion was absent. Also present were Anthony Roy,city administrator, and Sharon McCormick, assistant city clerk.

Visitors present were Brendan Wirth and Ethan Wirth.

Ethan Wirth presented a project to place a sign for the golf course on Highway 36. The council approved the project and the purchased the concrete.

The council reviewed the delinquent accounts report and the RLF Loan Report.

Sam Becker and Anthony Roy reported the discussions they have had with the rural water district. They reported the rural water district presented five potential options. Anthony Roy reviewed the options with the council. The only option he was concerned about was option number 2. There was consensus among the council to continue to work with the rural water district. Anthony Roy gave a quick overview of the status of the city wells.

Mayor Justin Schoonover appointed Regine Thompson as municipal judge.

Council approved the USDA Request for Payment Number 1 and Payment number 2 for the sewer project.

Justin Schoonover, Carol Wakefield, Sharon McCormick and Anthony Roy were approved as authorized signers for Community Development Block Grant Request for Payment.

Sharon McCormick, assistant city clerk, discussed the pool manager position with the council. The council agreed to have Sharon and Anthony Roy advertise for the position.

The council approved the payoff amount for the John Deere skid steer with John Deere Financial in the amount of $35,350.

Anthony Roy presented a cost of living adjustment in the amount of 3.2 percent to the city council. It was approved by the council.

The Employee Manual and Health Insurance Renewal discussion was tabled until the March meeting.

Anthony Roy presented an opportunity to purchase a dump truck-plow for the city. Council approved up to $25,000 for the purchase of the dump truck.

The council discussed offering chamber bucks to the employees that plowed the streets this past month. Anthony Roy was directed to look into this and to have the employees come to the March meeting if able.
