Grant received to add fish habitats to Emerson Lake

The Jewell City Council met last Monday at City Hall. Those in attendance were Mayor Darrell Bohnert, Council members Don Delzeit, Josh Burks, Gaye Daniels, Derek Birdsell and Bob Freeman, and Kristie Anderson, city clerk.

Janet Worster was present and discussed purchasing property from the city to put a trailer house on.

Don Jacobs, Jewell County Sheriff, was present and said the sheriff’s department is getting a new dispatch.

James Reed, code enforcement officer, was present and discussed properties he is working with to get up to code.

Jerod McMillan provided the monthly maintenance report. He said one of the air pump lines for the lake is broken and needing replaced.

Kristie Anderson presented the monthly clerk’s report. She said the city received a grant from Friends of Reservoirs to add fish habitats to Emerson Lake. Anderson talked about the upcoming grant program for City Connecting Link Improvement (CCLIP). Anderson also gave an update on the schedule for the community center and motel.

In unfinished business, Bohnert gave an update on the city office locks and computer progress.

In other business, Anderson presented the GAAP Waiver Resolution #60 and it was approved by all. Anderson also presented the list of delinquent dog tags. The council talked about sending out a reminder letter to the residents with delinquent dog tags. The council discussed selling property on Block 23 to Janet Worster. The council approved to sell three lots on the SW corner on Block 23 for $1,000.

For the Community Center, Bohnert mentioned removing the $75 deposit fee. The council decided to keep the $75 deposit fee.
