Country Roads

Happy Valentine’s Day! There are red and pink hearts displayed this time of year. There are those special Valentine’s cards sent and received and welcomed. Beautiful flowers are delivered and gifted to those special Valentines. Then there are the Valentine gifts that can be sentimental or lavish that are treasured. It can be a special time when that important romantic question is often popped. It’s a time when children prepare Valentine boxes and the friendly Valentine cards that sometimes contain candy are delivered secretly. Maybe, instead of mailing out those Valentine cards, texting or messaging a Valentine wish can be accomplished. There are romantic and special Valentine meals, some with candlelight, lovely music in the background and ordering a favorite dish off the menu that can be enjoyed. There are songs and poems written and shared expressing love this time of the year.

Anyway you look at this special day, there is some kind of “love” in air. For years, the word and meaning of “love” has been expressed. In the Bible’s New Testament times, four Greek words are used to describe the four different kinds of love. There is the Eros love that is used to describe the romantic love; there is Philos love that means a “brotherly love,” love and affection for a friend; there is Storge love that is between family members; then there is Agape love that is the sacrificial, unconditional love of God, such is expressed in John 3:16.

So here’s wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Well, the Chiefs did it again! They are the 2024 Super Bowl Champs by defeating the San Francisco 49’ers. As I said in a previous Country Roads, I’m a true Chief’s fan and so I was cheering, clapping and reclining chair coaching, as my hubby and I sat at home watching the game on our television. I was never tempted to think about purchasing tickets to attend the Super Bowl game, that were costing more than $8,000 each, but others must have as it was announced the stadium was full. Reba’s singing of the National Anthem was a hit, but the half time show was not a hit with me. Guess I’d be classified as being “old school,” though there was the re-introduction of roller skating that was pretty neat included in the entertainment. The game announcers seemed to, as always, go back and forth with their brags on whichever team was doing great at the time, or whichever players were doing what they thought was the thing to do. The first half of the game was a “fan sleeper” and I even found myself pulling out a magazine to look over but I still kept my eyes on the game now and then. Not sure what happened in the locker rooms during the half time, but the teams came out fired up and the pace of the game quickly changed. As the Chiefs usually do, they seemed to wait until half way through the second half to begin to pour on the steam. Overtime was called for and as the game clock rolled around, finally the magic happened. Tthe Chiefs had a chance in the last minutes to have control of the football, and they pulled it off. Touchdown Chiefs!
