L-N Lady Raiders win and lose last week

The L-N girls' basketball team earned the number six seed for the Conference tournament last week. In their first game they had a repeat showdown with Silver Lake and then managed a "make-up" game with Axtell on Saturday. They lost to Silver Lake in the tournament, but won the Axtell game on Monday evening. Game summaries:

L-N – SILVER LAKE: 26-37: The Lady Raider had a tough start to the tournament games, scoring only seven points in the first 16 minutes of play against Silver Lake. However, in the second half of play, L-N outscored Silver Lake 18-14, but could not overcome the early deficit.

L-N        4     3    13     6  -  26

S-L        11    12    6     8  -  37

Turnover numbers were about even for the two teams but Silver Lake held a large rebounding edge to work with.

Addi McCloskey had six points, 3 steals and five deflected passes in the Raiders effort. Kara Menke led in scoring with 7 points and Hanna Skinner had six points.

Game stats: (FG, FT, RB., Pts.)

Addi McCloskey 2-7, 0-0, 3, 6

Jessica Sole 1-4, 1-2, 1, 4

Vali Koehler 1-3, 0-0, 1, 4

Hanna Skinner 2-5, 2-2, 3, 6

Kara Menke 2-7, 3-6, 6, 7

Josie Hajny 0-1, 0-0, 1, 0

L-N team total: 8-27, 6-10, 17, 26

S-L team total: 13-38, 11-22, 29, 37

L-N – AXTELL: 40-28: This game on Monday night could maybe be called a "Foul" game. You see, a total of 38 fouls were called on both teams (L-N 16 and Axtell 22). In spite of that, however, the Lady Raiders put together the middle two quarters of play to earn the 12 point victory.

L-N            7    15     7    11  -  40

Axtell        7      6      4    11  -  28

Game statistics are sometimes interesting. In this game, Axtell had many more fouls and more steals. However, rebounds were even at 30 each and L-N deflected 24 Axtell passes to only 8 deflection for Axtell.

The determining factors seemed to be the percentage of shot made. L-N had 50 percent (15-30) of their free throw go through the hoop and field goal shooting, while not outstanding was better than Axtell's. (Both teams made 10 field goals, but L-N had 5 of them being 3-pt. shots.)
