Friday, the Thayer Central Titans held off the Superior Wildcats ladies team by a score of 30-28. It was a major disappointment for the Wildcats who had controlled the game from the opening tip.
The Wildcats jumped out to lead 9-2 which was the largest lead of the entire game. By the end of the first period, the Titans had cut the Wildcat lead to 3 points.
From the beginning, the Titans had trouble defending Superior's Reagan Meyers, a 6 foot 3 inch freshman. Meyers had five of her game-high 11 points in the first quarter.
Superior kept the lead going into half time up 20-19. The Titans took their first lead of the game with 4:40 left in the third quarter, a lead they never relinquished.
The teams were tied 26-26 at the end of the third quarter. The Titans scored, but Halle Bargen tied the game again with free throws with about three minutes to go in the game. With 4.3 seconds left in the game, the Titans had the ball. They took the out-of-bounds pass from the sidelines. With 1.5 seconds on the clock, the Titans launched a shot. It sailed over the rim and Titan freshman pulled the ball in and shot with .03 seconds on the clock. The ball sailed through the net and the Titans won 30 to 28.
