Truck overturns south of Superior

Friday, about 6:30 p.m. the Jewell County dispatch center maintained in the county sheriff’s office received a report that a semi-truck had left Highway 14 and over turned. The caller wasn’t sure of the location but thought it was north of Lovewell Lake.

Emergency services personnel from both Jewell and Nuckolls County were dispatched to look for the accident.

Three fire trucks with 14 men aboard and an ambulance was dispatched from Superior. They were joined by Superior and Nuckolls County law enforcement officers.

The wreckage was found in the east ditch about a quarter mile north of Z Road. The truck had gone off the edge of the road and traveled a considerable distance until it was sucked further into the ditch. Just as it crossed a large box culbert, it appeared to go down further into the ditch and overturned.

The truck driven by an out-of-area driver was hauling wheat which was spilled on the road and in the ditch.

A wrecker crew removed the truck before morning.

The driver apparently was unhurt and declined medical transport.
