The Jewell County Commissioners met Nov. 27. Commissioners Brent Beck, Keith Roe, and Ed Duskie and Carla Waugh, county clerk, were present for the meeting.
The following were present for the office head meeting and provided an update for their department: Chris Petet, custodian; Shannon Meier, ambulance director; and Carla J Waugh, county clerk. Those absent: Don Jacobs, sheriff; Amanda Davis, register of deeds; Joel Elkins, general superintendent; Nora Rhoades, Post Rock Extension District director; Brenda Eakins, treasurer; Alexandria Pierce, county attorney; Cindy Becker, health administrator; Anna Porter, county appraiser; PJ Garst, solid waste director; and Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator.
Shannon Meier reported a slow month for November. He said the new hydraulic cots are in operation.
Carla Waugh said all budgets but two have been submitted to the state. She also submitted the RNR report to the Municipal Services Office. She also has sent all required election reports, certificates to candidates and letters to the cities and school district. She reminded everyone that the week’s payroll was the second payroll for the month of November therefore no insurances would be deducted. She also said it is time to start working on inventory listings, employee evaluations and the department needs to provide a copy of each employee’s driver’s license to the clerk’s office.
Keith Roe said he has been working on various county projects.
Ed Duskie said he has been receiving road complaints.
Brent Beck said he attended the juvenile detention center meeting by Zoom. He also attended the hospital board meeting.
The commissioners went into executive session for 15 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel for the purpose of employee evaluations. Regular session resumed at 9:01 a.m. with them going into executive session again to discuss non-elected personnel for the purpose of employee evaluations. Regular session resumed with no action taken.
Commissioners approved the employment agreement with Paul E. Garst Jr. as solid waste director.
