The City of Mankato welcomes a new City Administrator

Anthony Roy, from Bogue, Kansas, is the new Mankato city administrator. Roy has been in local government for approximately 10 years, both city and county. That, along with a deep interest in Jewell County, pushed him to apply for and accept the city administrator position for the City of Mankato.

Roy is from western Kansas and believes Jewell County is a lot like where he grew up. He also knows the Boyd family that used to own the newspaper in Mankato. His interest in the community peaked with knowing Mary Boyd. Roy and his wife, Ellian, have four children, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Zinnia, and Dande. They also have two cats, Jyn and Mabel.

Roy's plans for the City of Mankato are to make sure the infrastructure is in good shape. He is also hoping to get the splash pad installed. This will not be his first splash pad that he has been involved with. Roy was involved with getting a splash park up and running in Hillsboro, Kansas. This is his first city administrator position, but in addition to his bachelor's degree in public administration that he received from Fort Hays State University and his certificates in public administration and law, Roy has worked in local government, primarily in economic development, but also in zoning, planning and code enforcement. Roy also was the city treasurer for a small city.

Roy is looking forward to getting to know the community and getting to know what the city is doing right and what needs to change. "Maybe there's a way we can be more efficient," Roy added. He wants to be accessible in the community and to be involved in it. "I welcome anyone who has questions, concerns, or comments about the city to stop in and say Hi," Roy said.

His responsibilities include managing the day to day activities of the city and working with the city council to figure out what their vision is and what the ecommunity's vision is. Once he knows the visions, Roy wants to translate those into action the city will undertake.

Roy's family will be moving to Mankato close to Christmas time. "It's important for us to become part of the community like we were in Hillsboro," Roy commented.
