The Nebraska Department of Revenue has made available a report on retail sales throughout the state for the month of August.
When the 2023 sales were compared to 2022, Superior sales were up 3.6 percent. County-wide sales in Nuckolls County were up 4.8 percent for the same time period. Statewide sales in August were down 2.9 percent. Most neighboring counties reported a growth in retail sales.
Hebron sales were up 4.2 percent but Thayer County sales were down 60.4 percent.
Sutton sales were up 20.1 percent while Clay County sales were up 6.5 percent.
Hastings sales declined 2.3 percent and Adams County sales were down 2.2 percent.
Fillmore County sales were up 14.5 percent and Geneva sales 24.1 percent
Webster County sales were down 2.8 percent and Red Cloud sales were down 8.1 percent.
Looking at the monthly reports can be deceiving. In some instances, the presence or absence of big projects can skew the numbers.
