Businesses in northwest and north central Kansas can now apply to host high school and college interns for the 2024 Nex-Generation Student Internship Program offered through the local, non-profit organization Nex-Generation Round Up for Youth, Inc.
The Nex-Generation Student Internship Program pairs area youth (16 and over) with interested businesses for a unique, immersive and paid summer internship experience within their local communities. Businesses also help mentor the interns throughout the summer. The goal of the program is to encourage youth to remain or return to the area to prosper.
Nex-Generation assists with the application process; provides a grant to each business to offset its costs; provides guidance and materials; and hosts student and business orientations, leadership days, and a graduation day event. The internship runs from May 30 through August 9.
Since the program began in 2011, more than 700 students have participated. “We just keep growing,” Chantelle Lawson, Nex-Generation’s internship coordinator, said. “Last summer, we had 97 businesses, and 166 interns participate. We are hoping to have upwards of 250 interns this next summer.”
Business applications are open now through Dec. 31. Interested businesses are encouraged to apply at http://www.nex-generation.org/internships or contact Chantelle Lawson via email at [email protected]. Students will then be able to apply to the respective businesses beginning Jan. 1. Application information will also be available on Nex-Generation’s website: http://www.nex-generation.org/internships.
