Arleta B. (White) Carlton died Nov. 2, 2023 at the age of 94. She was born Sept. 16, 1929, to Earl and Velma White, Glen Elder, Kansas.
After graduation from Glen Elder High School, having earned a teaching degree, she taught grades 1 through 8 in a one room school house.
On Aug. 8, 1948, she married Gerold D. Carlton in Glen Elder. To this union six children were born: Lavona, Lesa, Leila, Loeta, Lucille and Roy Jon. At the time of Gerold's death, they had been married 61 years.
Arleta loved horses and enjoyed trail and buggy rides. In addition to that, she enjoyed life to the fullest, traveling with her mother and sisters, and working on genealogy. They always enjoyed telling the stories of their travels.
After living for a short period of time in Glen Elder and Formoso, Gerold and Arleta settled on the farm north of Jewell.
Arleta was preceded in death by her husband, Gerold; two children, Lavona and Roy Jon; her parents; siblings, Robert, Lois, Richard and Alice; and son-in-law, Dale Wright.
She is survived by daughters, Lesa (Jerry) Houston, Leila (Dennis) Becker, Loeta Bazo, and Lucille (Steve) Black; several grandchildren, numerous great- grandchildren; and friends.
Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 5, at Kleppinger Funeral Home, Jewell, Kansas.
Her funeral was Monday Nov. 6, 2023 at the Jewell Christian Church with Pastor Dan Daniels officiating.
Burial followed at Wallace Cemetery Jewell, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
